Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of characters who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.
This warrior group includes Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
With 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment show why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each character has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
- The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a nasty location.
- The strong character and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could assist the party reach areas they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
- The strong figure and Wicander defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The target is marked for death by House Halovar.
This leaves them no alternative but to head to Timmony in quest for the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
From episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Explorers and Schemers tables.
Fans can expect learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
