The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Might Solve This

Whenever a prominent awards ceremony approaches, one notices an outcry for the addition fresh award types to recognize overlooked contributions and delight the hearts of fans who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. The same goes for tabletop games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward just as with other blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand is the most urgent and important of all. The demand is this: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why film award organizations avoid this approach. But it is an unavoidable compromise for the industry of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these classifications effectively encompass many game types, allowing placement for most games within them.

Not so for logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. Which classification works within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

The Representation Problem

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers launched regularly lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely in 2014
  • A different innovative game was excluded during that ceremony
  • Well-received sorting experience was overlooked in 2021
  • Only a few brain-teasers managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Value of Brain-Teasers

These are often modest productions, but the art behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most popular titles in the world continuing this trend for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game rivals famous sandbox experiences competing to become best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, while interacting with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. One could readily select five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these are games that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the hard edge interactive creation, producing among the purest expressions of gaming itself. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay generations.
